Well the title says it all. We have decided to take a year or two before trying to move to NZ. We feel there are too many things against us at the minute to feel 100% comfortable making such a big move.

The 'credit crunch' effect, means our house like many others has lost value, so we wouldn't have so much money to take with us.

Also as I am hoping to do teacher training, we felt it would be better for me to have some experience of actual teaching, so we would both be employable rather than all the pressure on OH.

I actually feel happier now we have a definite plan for the next year at least, I'm in the midst of filling in my teacher training application form, so fingers crossed I'll get a place.

Anyway, that's my little update, bit of a wait for the rollercoaster ride for us, but it's for the best I think. WIth a bit of luck we can get some debts paid off too, and be in a better position to move to NZ in a year or two.

Thanks for all advice, and I'll be hanging around to keep up to date with everyone.

Helen

Hey Helen
Totally get where you're coming from. we considered all this recently also. concerned about leaving the middle of a recession in a years time to only enter the beginning of another.
when we worked out the time line though ( 3 months for ITA, 4 months to submit etc etc) we decided to keep forging ahead so when the dust has settled a bit we will be well advanced on the route to PR.
good luck with your dreams whatever you end up doing.

I must admit, we have changed our minds so many times about the best time to make the move, so I am almost relieved to have made a decision for now. I am committing to try and get on the teacher training course, so must focus on that for a while instead of NZ!

If we had pots of money in the bank it would be another story, but as we failed to win the lottery last night ;), looks like we need to wait a while!

As my OH is still out of work at the moment we can't afford to start the PR process really. I have secured 2 part time jobs though and he has an interview tomorrow so fingers crossed things will improve here soon for us.
