Hi, I'm arriving in Christchurch on Dec 16th. I wanted to get a EFTPOS card the same day is that possible? I opened my account here from the US. I think I need a deposit and passport when I go to the bank, but will they have the EFTPOS card or do I have to wait for it in the mail? Thanks :D

I don't have any direct experience with Kiwibank but at the ASB and at HSBC we got our EFTPOS cards there and then when we opened the account. We even got to choose our PIN numbers.

Thanks I'm guessing then all banks work the same with issuing Eftpos cards. But I will email Kiwi Bank to check.

i got an email from one of the banks (can't remember which) that said they would have the card there waiting for me, if i opened an account with them in advance of arriving in the country! i sorta got the impression that it was the standard way of doing it, but a quick email or phone call to your bank should answer your question for sure!

We didn't apply in advance for our Kiwibank or ASB accounts. Kiwibank we had to wait for the card, ASB gave us one there and then. I assumed this was because the ASB one doesn't have a name on it whereas Kiwibank does so if that's the case pre-ordering should be OK

You don't have to wait for a Kiwibank EFTPOS card any more as you can get a non-personalised one at the branch immediately (and choose your PIN number). If you want a personalised card, they post it to you. This is a new service offered by Kiwibank very recently.
