According to the Ops Manual I can claim bonus points for experience in an area of absolute skill shortage if (I paraphrase);

1. Experience gained in occupation of LTSSL
2. Meets the specifications for that occupation
3. Applicant is suitably qualified or experienced to do the job.

Whilst claiming points for QUALIFICATIONS in an absolute skill shortage area is very specific (i.e. they more or less name the degrees you need), I find the work experience bit a little vague.

For example what are the ‘specifications’ for an occupation? On the LTSSL there is a column detailing how to claim bonus points for having a qualification in that area, but no column describing the specification? Do I refer to the ANZSCO list which has reasonably detailed job descriptions?

Does anyone think this bit is open to interpretation by the Case Officer?

Thanks.

I'm in the same position - claimed bonus points for my work experience on the LTSLL without the qualification - since on the ANSCO list they say 5 years of work experience may substitute qualification.(for IT specifically) They also say work experience combined with vendor certification (microsoft exams hopefully) may susbstitute the qualification. Our EOI was selected yesterday with 115 points - and hopefully they won't subtract the 15 bonus points I've claimed! Otherwise we're back in the pool!!

Will let you know as soon as I get feedback from them - since I've been looking for answers for this specific questions for months - and there seems to be different answers - so I think it is subjective and all depends on the case officer and the situation.

I'm interested in how they define a job as well - I've gone through the jobs in Appendix 11, and there are two or three which I could make my job fit (just from the name); however, it would mean cutting the square corners off to make it go into the round hole, so to speak. Sigh.
