As you may know OH had no problem getting job offer on arrival in NZ - he put in for temp work permit and should hear back within next 2 weeks about that - but we decided to get our EOI done anyway and get the ball rolling. Spent many hours on it - as I'm sure a lot of you will appreciate ;) - but sumbitted it online last night.
Just checked status and we were selected in todays draw :clap :D
so 4 weeks in everything is looking good - we are loving Cambridge and look forward to getting out and about discovering things as the summer approaches. Joined the local library today and wasted an hour or two in there then staggered back up the high street with our piles of books! Have bought a car and a ute (!), a barbeque (!) Billy Connolly tickets for next Feb (!!!!!) and a lovely dressing table from salvation army shop for my little girl
:nice1
We are in a small furnished rental that is only available short term so our next job is to find a bigger more permanent rental.
In someways I cannot believe it's only a month since we left UK- in other regards it feels like we've been here forever! Early days yet I know but we're all settling well here - will be TONNES better once we can get kids in school, but they are adjusting well and seem to be fairly settled considering all moving about we've had to do.
and... I love shopping in NZ ! I've always been a bit of a bargain hunter, so I'm just fine with the shopping around, looking for specials etc. Don't know if this is a new immigrant habit but I even jot down prices of things in a little notebook I always have in my bag, then i can compare prices in other shops etc! (or am I just sad?!). This mostly applies to food or "big" one-off purchases, not done any clothes shopping yet. I've also had a go at asking for extra discount and done pretty well so far! (eg. $100 discount of bbq as last one left - $50 off set of already reduced pans as no box)
have been lucky enough to meet up with lots of helpful formites (Dolans, PPP/BB, Mickstim, Carey, Belmont Babes, SamB plus Lockstock & others from the picnic day). All in all have to say that the forum has been such a help in our whole emmigrating story (which is still being written!) would hate to think how we'd have got by without it. (would definately also have missed out on Billy Connolly tickets - thanks Andy!)
onwards and upwards, aye ...................
