Hi all, my girlfriend and I are planning to come to New Zealand in March to work for a while, perhaps for a year or so. I've been in contact with some agencies and so far so good in that respect (early days), but I have a question on visa types for you...

Basically the most simple way is to come across on a Working Holiday visa (we're both under 30), but I don't know what employers think of that. All of my experience to date is civil service-based, so I figured I'd try and get something in policy work, that kind of thing. Anyway what I wanted to ask is whether you can get a fixed contract (up to 12 months) job in this line of work with a WH visa, or whether I'd be better trying to get a different kind of visa.

Like I said it's early days with the agencies, they said there is work out there for someone with my background, but haven't been much help on the visa front.

So cheers for any help!

I have my WHV approved and asked a similar question to the immigration officer.

She said that you can work in whatever job you want as long as it does not commit you or your employer to more than 12 months.

That does mean though, the day you get to NZ you have to start working. Hope you're good fighting the jet lag :)
