paying for new zealand nursing registration

Hi all

I'm having a bit of a problem paying the fee for my NZ nursing registration. My forms say i have to pay $485 by cheque or international bankers draft drawn on a NZ bank (I'm in the UK). My bank says they cannot help! I can also pay by credit card (I'll have to use parents card as I don't have one). If I use a credit card I will have to put the card number on a form and post to NZ. Can they then take the fees in NZ$ off a UK card? Sorry if this sounds a bit daft but it has really confused me!

Thanks for any advice
Rosie

On the matter of the credit card, as far as I'm aware, if the accepting body has an arrangement with that particular credit card company, it doesn't matter what currency is involved. Somewhere in the small print of the card holder's agreement, there will be details of how they'll calculate the exchange rate before the total appears on the statement.

However, with the awareness there is these days of the possibility of identity-theft, I've heard several times lately (including on these threads) how a payment to a country where you don't have a habit of making transactions can be blocked. This could be awkward and/or embarrassing when dealing with an official body you're hoping to belong to. The way round this is to phone customer services of the card company beforehand, and tell them there is about to be a charge of this many $NZ which is to be honoured.

Thanks for that JandM!
I must admit on the subject of identity theft, my parents are not too keen on putting the credit card details on a form and me sending it off just in case it falls into the wrong hands! I will send it by recorded delivery though so should be ok.

Thanks again

i also found that when they refer to things as credit cards, debit cards can work too.

Thats interesting. On the NZ nursing council form it states that Mastercard or Visa credit cards are accepted. I have a Visa debit card so maybe that would work.

if you were to use your VISA debit card while in NZ you may find that you have to use it as a credit card (re: the 3 buttons on the keypad) thats what i found after lots of messing around! And i paid a few companies using my debit card as i no longer have access to a credit card.

Yeah, credit card is the simplest. Like other people said, it can flag itself as possibly fraudulent and not process, but calling the credit card company can clear that up. The exchange rate is good on credit cards, and there usually aren't transaction fees either.

I used my visa debit card and sent all paperwork the securest way I could find via post.
All went through and came up on my statement as NZ dollars converted to UK £

Was this to pay for NZ nursing registration fees? I know on the forms it says credit card but if I can use my debit card it will solve all my problems!
Thanks for all the help. It's much appreciated.:nice1

I do not have a credit card either. I used my Dads credit card to pay for my NZ nursing registration fees. Just filled in the details on the form. They do not have a problem with you using someone else's card. I sent everything by international signed for just for safety.

:)Using you debit card to pay will work. But call you bank to let them know so that they do not block your debit card.

I paid with my debit card from the USA for my nursing registration and for my EOI fee and no problem. It showed up on my account in the US as $US. I have had to have my Mum (back in the UK) pay by UK check for the police certificates from the UK as they have to be in sterling and I do not have a UK account.
Hope this helps
