Hi all,
I was curious if there are Dutch people participating in this forum who have already left the Netherlands and went to New Zealand.. I have seen a post from Evelien I think, but are there any others ?
And also, we are attracted to Whangarei, would that region be good for us from a job / housing / secondary school point of view ?
Again, all feedback welcomed and appreciated !

Thanks Evelien, but it seems I am again not clear enough.. ( must be Friday.... oh no it's still Thursday.. :uhoh )
What I meant was, are there "groups" of Dutch immigrants around the Whangarei region that you know of ?

Hi
At the moment I am living with my fiance in Amsterdam (I'm NZ'er, he's Dutch). We move to NZ to live in November
NZ has quite a few Dutch immigrants and the ones that I know seem to like living there very much. I'm sorry I cannot answer your question with regard to Whangarei as I haven't lived there myself.
From what I can gather from living in A'dam the Dutch and Kiwi culture is quite similar.

My hubby's family is Dutch. Father from Maastricht and Mum from Delft. We actually met in Den Haag when he was visiting his long lost relatives. His parents eloped to Wellington 50 years ago, lived there for 38 years and then decided, as many ex-pats do, to come HOME to retire. Big mistake for them, NZ was their home and The Netherlands was a stranger to them. They would have gone back but then his dad got ill and they never got to. It was all very sad but his mum is now back living in Auckland and is very happy to be where she belongs again. I believe there is a fairly sizeable Dutch population and as Eveline says there is a Dutch shop in Napier (MIL was down in Havelock North a couple of months ago and was talking about it) - think there's one in Auckland too.
Anyway, good luck wherever you end up.
