Got my contract through this morning for a job in auckalnd. I've accepted it and resigned here. heading out the end of april.

It's all a bit scarey now.

I've just did a calulation and realised that I've just taken a £17.5K paycut. I must be off my head. :wah :wah :wah

Can I live in Auckland on $60K ??

Please tell me it's going to be alright.

Way to go foolsgold 99!! :cheers

Congratulations and well done to you.

You're doing the right thing - you know it in your heart. Money does not buy happiness. Yes, you need enough to live on but I'm sure like lots of other people on this forum you're heading to New Zealand for a better quality of life not the chance to earn big bucks and buy more STUFF!

I'm right there with you as soon as we get this house sold.

Woo Hoo!! :nice1

congratulations And best of luck.

Are you doing the right thing? Who knows? What is 100% certain is if you didn't go for it now, it is something you would regret the rest of your life.

In my book, that means you are doing the right thing - even if it , in time, proves to be not for you....

cheers

Congrats!!!! :cheers :cheers

$60K in Auckland - I'm sure you'll manage. Salaries are nothing like they are at home so there's no point comparing what you were earning with what you will be earning. We took a £55K paycut to come here but we feel we live quite comfortably in a nice house & I don't have to work :cool

Good luck! :hopeso

If the exchange rate carries on the way it is going you might actually end up earning more over here than you did in the UK :laugh

I think the size of your monthly mortgage/rent bill will decide on whether you will be alright or not as that seems to be the biggest outlay here. We pay $330 per week in ChCh and if you add that to our other bills the cost of living calculator says that we need to earn $55k a year and that doesn't really include any luxuries/holidays etc.
