On behalf of my son, has anybody found pea fritters, of the English fish-and-chip shop kind, on sale anywhere in NZ, but particularly in the Auckland area?

Sadly, no, not in my experience. But I've hardly ever been to Auckland so I can't speak for availability there.

no but they have a huge array of other fritters like paua and potato/sweet potato which are nice

If you want to make your own pea fritters are really easy to make!

I can't remember where I was now, but would have been over here (east Auckland), someone was telling me about pea fritters. Not something we've ever wanted, so declined and just got our standard fish and chips. I've definately seen battered Mars bars on the menu boards though of the nearby F&S shop :(

Thanks for the replies. YouMeAndThree, if you happen to come across the place, please let me know (but don't bother on account of the Mars bars...) as he works all over the city at times. Flutterby, do you have a recipe, please?

drain a tin of peas, whizz with a blender, pat into rounds, coat in batter, and drop into deep fat fryer/chip pan

Well, that IS easy. Thanks. I'll pass it on. (I was amazed to hear from my son when talking on the phone that this was an English food he misses, as I didn't know he'd ever tried them. I don't like processed peas, so it's never crossed my mind to have the fritters and didn't know what they're like.)

Mmmmm never heard of them myself but have to say I could quite fancy a pea fritter right now! :) (but dont own a blitzer or a deep fat fryer...)

OT Did make myself some sweetcorn patties the other night, they were very tasty. I had been staring at a can of Pam's creamed corn in my pantry and couldnt quite figure out what to do with it.

Gently sarkly link about pea fritters. Interestingly, it's the ones sold by the nearest fish and chip shop to us, here in the deep south of England, that my son is pining for, and we can also get banana fritters and pineapple fritters in lots of restaurants around here, so this assumption that fritters are northern seems to be off-beam.

Ok so apparently you can buy mushy peas rather than whizz them, don't remember seeing tins of mushy peas in NZ tho :no
A pan of oil works just as well as a deep fat fryer (just be careful not to set it on fire - like i would:exit)

Just to confirm that it is possible to buy mushy peas in NZ, haven't seen them often but they are around.
