I remember reading a thread that listed the differences between WTR and PR. What I am most interested in is status of spouse working and if you go PR route and are given WTR instead, what would that mean for cost and the application process in the future?
Worried that we will be offered WTR instead of PR

Not sure from your description which thread you are on about?
But here's a good one to get you started FAQ: WTR from Skilled migrant application (http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21087)
If not, then just post the question and I'm sure that someone will be able to answer it anyway.

The PR visa fee are taken whether you get PR or not, but after having WTR you will not have to pay twice when you find a job, your PR process will continue without the fee ;)
