Is it possible for me to re train to early years when i get there - I have noticed from other threads - that the childrens playschemes (which i will go to with my 1 yr old and 3 yr old) run training for parents? Is this a early childhood quailification ?
I am a pe teacher who has recently been teaching 3 - 11 year olds (my teaching degree is in secondary schools 11- 18 yrs) (level 7)
Or should i just approach nurserys/preschools? ideally I would want to take my kids with me to start with?
Any one on here in early years? Should I retrain as a primary teacher? Or should I just do supply teaching to get experience?
Any advance or comments welcome :yes

We talked about this on the Returning Teachers' Course I did. Apparently you can do primary as a secondary trained teacher but the ECE stuff is a world of its own. You have to get the proper qualification even if you're primary trained. You can work as an unqualified teacher (with all your other qualification!) for peanuts though because they're desperate for ECE teachers.

You can work in Early Childhood Education as an unqualified teacher but pay is pretty low and many places won't take you unless you have a place to study for the ECE qualification. This is a one yr post graduate diploma, full time or part time, but you can do it on-line by distance. Several different Uni's off it eg Auckland and Waikato. The pressure is on to get the majority of staff trained by 2012 so you're getting in at the right time. You can also teach in Kindergartens once you have the ECE qualification.
Schools say they need relief (supply) teachers badly so you could go down this route.
Where are you headed in NZ?

you can do a graduate diploma at Auckland (even thought its postgrad) they call it different things over here. It takes 1 yr and two intakes its flexible learning too so you can still work at a childcare centre whilst training apart from the 14 wks practicum.
