up to you mate, don't think you'll get a better deal, are you talking one way or return? Either way it is a good deal!!

our 1 way flights via LAX in January are 850 quid each.

but that includes an over night stop.

the London flight to LAX only gives you 1.45 to make the connection.

considering US immigration is so slow, we'd either miss it, or panic and have to rush

If you're flying on Air NZ from London to Auckland via LA on the same flight number (NZ1), you actually stay on the same flight and don't change aircrafts. Once you disembark in LA, you're taken to a transit lounge to go through US immigration procedures and wait a bit in the lounge (there's plenty of food and drinks). You're then called to board the same flight you took out of London. You won't need to take your luggage back and check it in again.

Not too sure of the procedure if you're flying on another airline though.

Hope this helps,

Jen :)

yes, i realise you don't have to re collect your luggage, but you still have to stand in line in immigration with your green visa waiver form + blue form.

on recent experience in Houston airport & New York, that can easily take 2 hours alone.

You won't have a problem. The immigration is only for that flight and no other flight is involved so you only have to queue with people from your plane and only the ones going onto Auckland. All others go to different arrivals. Not only that, Those with children go to the front of the queue and are checked first. As said before you then wait in the transit lounge which is just for the NZ flight.Even if you don't have children it shouldn't take more than an hour. You can only go into the special transit lounge then back onto the plane . In these circumstances the plane will not go without you as you are already in the system.

If there is a lot of people on NZ1 that is going through to NZ, then they direct you downstairs to the larger immigration hall.;)
Or was it upstairs???
They did that once with us.:yes

Nick.:cheers

thanks for the help!

but we ended up booking the second leg of the tip the day later and are staying the night in a LAX hotel.

i'll be honest, i didn't really fancy a 26 hour flight all in one go.
