I see the current exchange rate is about 1US + 1.80NZ. Just hope it can stay this good for a few months and we can get some money over.

I just noticed that, too. We have a meager amount in savings, but I'm tempted to move it over anyway. Our NZ interest rate has dropped I think to 6.65 but that's still almost 6.5 over our US rate! I would cost about $30US ($24 US bank, $12 NZ bank) to move it but it would be recouped in interest quickly.

I wish I had money to bring over! I had to do the transfer just when it got to 0.69 :) Good luck guys!

What bank have you opened an account with? You haven't made the move to NZ yet have you?

We set up our bank account with Kiwibank from the US. It was pretty simple - just fill out some forms and send them back to them. They have a migrant section on their website with contact info to get started.

This allows us to send money over prior to getting there, and when we get there we just have to go to a local branch and activate the account to have access to it and get ATM cards.

I have had a number of questions and they have always been quick to respond to them.

We have ANZ. We set up our fastsaver savings acct from here (US) in Jan 07 and in April 07 on an NZ visit we set up our checking acct. We are still in CA and we don't have a definite arrival date, though my personal goal is Feb 2010.:nice1
