Hey..

Its been a little while since i posted but anyways now in Christchurch and looking for a job!...

Met with one recruitment agency and they put me forward for a job which required me to start immediately. Had two interviews with the company. even spent half a day there to see how i would like the job.

So an offer arrives- $8000 less then what the recuritment had stated the job was going for. At this stage i would have had to drop over $15000 my salary in Ireland.

I refused the offer and figured they were in negotiating stage. Recruitment company said the management at the potential workplace loved me and really wanted me to join the team but the owner of the company was not prepared to pay an extra $8000 to have me.

So i went off looking for another job and what do i find????...the job advertised with another recruitment company at the salary i was asking for!..

So i ring back recruitment company and asked consultant for feedback on my interview and she said that there was none other then that i performed exceptionally well and that they were very happy with me. So i asked her why the job was now advertised with another recruitment company at the salary i was asking for....Her flippant responce was ...oh 'XYZ recruitment' are always inflating the salarys of their jobs when advertising.

I'm am so upset over being treated like this, after wasting my time and after putting so much effort into trying to get this job!...So i know recruitment companies are full of crap..but can i really not take anything for face value with them?

Do i really need to ask about $20k over what i really want to get any job at the rate i can survive on??......

Sorry about the long ramble.. i'm just sooooo frustrated at them!:wah:wah:wah

This happened to OH at the very start of his job hunting here. Was told that the salaries posted were the max to expect, but very few matched it. I thought that since then new regs had come in for advertising salaries (which has since led to not many salaries being advertised with the jobs, I note).

I wonder how recruitment agency fees are structured in NZ and whether this might determine which salary they get their client at or advertise or whatever? Anyone?

Sorry if am being a bit thick :o but can you not contact the employers directly to negotiate if you think the recruitment agent is messing with you?

Hope you get something worked out soon :yes

When i signed up with recruitment agency i had to sign agreement that i would never directly contact any of the companies for a period of six months... so no can do- and it doesn't help that the recruitment consultant is best friends with the person in charge of the recruitment at the company in question!...

Yes very frustrating...and not a clue how to get around this- big part of the problem is that very few companies recruit directly for finance staff -they all use recruitment agencies.

Most companies have preferred suppliers, and when you tell an agency that you're interested in a job, they'll ask you if you're already being represented by another agency. It's so you're not represented multiple times and no-one ends up looking like a idgit.

Some companies will NOT talk to individuals, and will ONLY deal through an agency.

What regulations came in? Just interested as I was in the Recruitment Industry for 25 years here in the UK before selling up last year. Obviously it's not the same. The regulations over here state that if you are advertising a salary then you must state the qualifications required to earn that salary.

(btw, Hi Gil :) )
