The last EOI selection was on 19 November, so is it a safe assumption that the next one will be on 3 December? How quickly then does my EOI get put into the pool after it's submitted online? We will be sending it through this weekend, will that be enough time for it to be pulled or assessed by the 3rd? Or will I have to wait until the next selection date? (I was just hoping to have it done as soon as possible to avoid the holiday backlog.)

As far as I know, if you submit it online it goes in to the pool as soon as you pay the fee. I don't think anyone looks at it before then to assess it or anything like that..

We put ours in on the Monday night and it was selected when we awoke on the Wednesday Morning.
Good Luck

Its all a bit dependent on a) whether you got enough points to go in the pool in the first place (100pts I think) and then b) what points criteria the selections are being made on for the next draw but hopefully it won't be too long until they fish you out of the pool.
Good Luck!

if you have more than 110 points (if the floor stays the same) you should get fished pretty quick

Well that's the thing...I think my maximum possible number of points we're looking at is 105, so I don't know if getting in right before the next draw is even worthwhile considering we'll probably get rejected at least initially anyway. I was just wondering how quickly our application would be assessed, regardless of the outcome. Less time waiting around and more time to formulate Plan B, you know? :D

I have seen folks on here get selected with 105 points. :) Good luck with whatever you decide. :nice1

Thanks for the encouragement. :) Unfortunately all (or most) of the people who got selected with 105 points also had a qualification or skill in an area of absolute skill shortage, which I don't. But I suppose I can always hope...

some were selected on 105 straight with no bonus points and this time of year is apparently easier for the lower points so I'd suggest getting the eoi in. nothing to lose!

Wow...that's about the most hopeful thing I've heard so far! :laugh We're definitely getting it in this weekend, so we'll be crossing all our fingers and toes!

I didn't see if BadlyDrawnGirl mentioned if she has a job offer, but that does seem to have an impact on selection.
Back in the October Expo in London, I quizzed the NZIS team in depth about points selection. They said that if you had a job offer then you could be selected even with just 100 points. However they also stated that if you didn't have a job offer then you needed *at least 115 points* to have any chance of selection at all.
However it seems that threshold has dropped, as Victoria24's signature shows 'EOI selected with 110 points & no job offer' - so maybe 105 would be enough. It looks like the criteria get lower as the year goes on, so entering now may be your best bet...!
Cheers!
Pete.

Sorry for not clarifying - I don't have a job offer (and don't seem likely to ever get one without a work visa, since my skills/degree are not in an area of absolute skill shortage). Which was why I was panicking over my low points. I also attended the October Expo in London, and the NZIS rep I spoke to said that I should definitely put my EOI in even if my partner's degree did not meet the recognisation standards - we would have had 20 points with it, leaving us at 125, but when we got to that part of our assessment he said "Well, I really wouldn't worry, you're already over the threshold." I don't understand why these people seem to get a perverse sense of pleasure out of getting people's hopes up and then crushing them... :wah
Oh well, I'll submit it and then hope for the best. If it doesn't work out, I suppose we can wait two years until my OH gets a degree and then try again... :(

Honestly, I really believe that our work experience in New Zealand speaks volumes towards our ability to settle there, and if NZIS would just let a human being take a look at our application they would look much more favorably upon us than a computer programme that just sees 105 points and chucks us in the bin. We have an extensive social support network with lots of friends and work colleagues there, and I have been given glowing reviews by my supervisors in my NZ jobs. OH also plans to join the NZ Police, which is crying out for new recruits.
That said, would it be totally stupid to claim points for OH's liquor controller qualification (LCQ) which he obtained in New Zealand...since it would cost us a fair bit of $$$ to have evaluated, we have been assuming that NZQA will give us at least some points for it...just to bump us up to 125 and at least give us the chance of being evaluated by an actual person? Or is this just grasping at straws?

Minimum points required to be selected are 100, and applications with 100 or over points stay in the pool for 6 months if not selected. I would recommend you to submit EOI and then start looking for a job offer, as you mentioned you have a big social netweok, someone somewhere in NZ can shoot the offer down for you.
Unfortunately EOI are selected automatically by the system, its only later when human being involved in checking all details which results in decision successfull or deselected.

Well, I will do my best to put feelers out for job offers, but as I've discussed in other threads, it seems unlikely that I will get such an offer as my qual/skills are not in an area of absolute skill shortage. So our best and most feasible option seems to be getting the points for my OH's qualification.
