Hi everyone

our medical is booked for MONDAY - EEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKK!

anyway, i know that it's too late to do anything about it now. What will be, will be!!! Have spent the last few weeks trying to get BMI down and have done that successfully. just waiting for the big day then . . .

my question is - does anyone have any tips that might or might not make a difference. Should I drink shed loads of water? Should I not drink alcohol the night before? Should I stay away from sweets and junk food this week-end? Should I not eat a big meal the night before etc etc etc - I know these are only small things but if there is a chance that they'll help the outcome of the meds - I'll do it!!!!!!

Thanks for the tips in advance

i think drinking lots of water and avoiding alcohol and sweets and junk food are all a good idea anyhow.
I have heard of others doing the "extra" tests for fasting glucose (if your BMI or waist measurement is close) at the medical if they have fast beforehand (may be worth considering) you could do a search, or give the doctors a call for more info on that.

I agree, drink as much water as you can - oh and practice writing cheques with two noughts on the end!!! Also catch up on sleep because I had mine on Wednesday and have been worrying about it through the night ever since

I fasted because I was worried that my BMI and waist would be borderline. I mentioned this on the phone when I made the appointment and asked if fasting 'just in case' would be a god idea. The receptionist said 'yes'. As it was, I was under and didn't need the extra tests.

My tip? if you do fast, remember to take something with you that you can eat as soon as you leave the doctors - I was ravenous.

I would say avoid caffeine on the day. Apparently it does nasty things to your blood pressure. It may already be up as it is because you will inevitably worry over the medical, any caffeine might make it worse (it did for me, although still under the limit). Other than that tried to relax. It scary beforehand but afterwards you'll think "what's all the fuss about".

Good luck

Definately avoid alcohol for a few days before the medical the liver function tests are very sensitive especially if alcohol taken within 24 hours.Avoid sugary foods on the day of the medical as there is a possibility it can be detected in the urine.Just be sensible with your diet it does no harm. The medicals are over so quickly just leaving you with a hole in your pocket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Good luck.
