I know I'm probably coming across as really desperate, but we're looking for all the possible extra points we can get before we submit our EOI.

My OH's boss at our previous employer (we worked for the same company) has already told us he would be more than willing to take my OH back if he were to return to New Zealand, and we were assured that he would always have a job opening at the company if he wanted to go back.

Would we be able to claim points on our EOI (with me as the principal applicant) if we provided proof of OH's job offer at this company, and if so, how would we go about proving it? I know that we already spoke to their HR department and they seemed nervous about having to prove that they couldn't employ a suitably-qualified Kiwi for the same job, but since he won't be the principal applicant, wouldn't it be sufficient to show that he has at least SOME offer of employment waiting for him?

Check the online point calculator. It does not seem that dependent's offer of job will add any points. Why don't you make her principal applicant with job offer. This will kick the process fast.

First, the principal applicant (me) is the her, therefore making the OH a him. :laugh

Second, according to this page (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/general/generalinformation/qanda/smcpointsjuly.htm), it says: "A principal applicant’s partner’s offer of skilled employment in New Zealand (or current skilled employment) will qualify for 20 bonus points."

The reason we are doing me as the principal applicant is because I have a degree and more work experience relevant to my qualification. I'm also better under pressure when being interviewed, lol.

Sorry for confusion over HER and HIM.

Run the online points calculator, if it says 20 points then definitely you will get 20 points. Don't delay in submitting EOI, you can always add things later on.

Righty-o. We decided to go for it, as he does have a genuine and legitimate offer of employment in New Zealand - we figure the worst that can happen is that they decide that the job position he's being offered isn't skilled enough, and take the points away from us. We still meet the minimum threshold, so we'll stay in the pool for six months.

And if at the end of it all we don't get selected...we'll just apply to Australia! :laugh
