Going on from bubbles "Might be a dumb question" thread http://www.emigratenz.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2246 (assuming that link works..) Can anyone share their experiences with having to verify that their child is financially dependent ?

I think that's a difficult one to prove as if, in my case, my daughter was living with me she would be less financially dependent that if she wasnt (trust me ....... she's a teenager...!!)

Also, what happens if you can't provide enough evidence of financial dependency, does your application get declined or do they decide not to include your child :uhoh :uhoh .......... [just imagining all those "home alones" !!!!]

Surely emotional dependency is much more important than financial. In my case I speak to my daughter at least 6 times every single day regardless whether I see her or not (she lives just 1 mile down the road from me) I am the first she calls when she needs anything from "have you seen that on TV" to "my boyfriends dumped me" which in my opinion far outweights who pays the rent.

Surely your siblings can join you at any future time, so what difference does it make if they are reliant upon you financially when you submit your application?

Those who have read an earlier thread from me will know that my teenager is not sure whether she is coming with us or not, but we have submitted the ITA with her on it and I know she would be devastated if she was declined (reverse psychology at work there !!!) and I would be equally so if we were declined on the grounds of not being able to prove her dependency. Their must be some value in the "family unit".

Apologies if I've let my mind run on, but all just thoughts spinning through my head.

All shared experiences welcome :yes :yes

Thanks

Hi Debby and Keith,

When we had to prove our 18yr old's financial dependency we submitted the following -

1. Receipts for his driving lessons - paid by cheque from our bank account
2. Letter from our car insurer outlining the extra payment required to add him to our policy, with the payment shown on our Visa bill,
3. Proof of his earnings - his wageslips -he was an apprentice on a low wage.
4. Clothing receipts on my Visa or bank account statements to prove that I was still paying for his clothing,

I think that was all. At first our application was declined for him and it was only when the above were added on that he was accepted. It's a real worry isn't it? Good luck!
