Looking through the house postings, I never see reference to a basement. Are there many houses with basements?
Thanks -

Not a kiwi (or UK ) thing basements, might get one by default if the house is on a hill.

Thanks. I guess that's o.k. as long as tornadoes are rare. They're great for storage as long as they don't leak.

Some older homes have a garage and basement-like room beneath them, especially if they're built on a section that slopes. However, I can't say I've heard of any homes that have a 'traditional' American-style basement beneath them in New Zealand.
Most Kiwis keep their 'junk' in the garage, a garden shed, or in the space underneath the house. Older homes usually have 2 - 3 feet of crawl space under them, newer ones generally don't have much, if any.
