Anyone know how long to drive from Hamilton to Keri-Keri? I'm guessing about 5 hrs? And a nice place to stay/bach there, for 3 adults, 3 kids?

I don't think it took us that long - more like 4, but it was a year ago and I'm a bit hazy. We made sure to miss any rush hour in Auckland.

It's about 4 hours north of Akl, so add however long it takes you to get to, say, the harbour bridge and Bob's your uncle.

A nice place to stay once you are there is Palm Cottages. If they are full they should be able to make a recommendation. IMHO Kerikeri is very nice to visit, but all of the attractions (and most of the accomodation) is in Paihia. When were you thinking of going? It is really popular, and tends to be booked up well in advance during the main holiday period.

Ditto, thanks for that link. It's incredible how much slower it is to drive to places than in the UK with the lack of motorways and v. strictly enforced speed limits.

You could easily make that 6 hours with the holidays traffic. Once you are off the highway at Orewa the average spped will drop like a stone as you get stuck behind caravans and logging trucks. I always take the scenic route (SH16) from Akl to Wellsford, it doesn't save much time but the scenery is great and there is hardly any traffic. It can be a bit windy in places, though, so break out the buckets for any vomiters in the back.
