Not so good new about my car arriving

Finally got to collect my car on Wednesday evening :clap

Cost was over $3,000 in the end :wah

But the cost is not the worst part. I took a short trip out yesterday. Today I took the youngest children out to return the hired Plunket car seats and meet up with a bunch of ex-pat ladies for coffee - all fine so far. Have managed to find my way around the local area. Got home after picking up eldest daughter at midday.......

......... noticed that the rear wheel nut looked like it was sticking out a bit - so I gave it a twiddle only to find that it was almost falling out. Checked the other nuts and only one is unmoveable:eek:!!!!! I could take 4 of the 5 out as easy as anything!!!!! So I checked the other wheels and the other rear wheel had 3 out of the 5 loose!!! The front ones appear fine. We had to have new tryres on the rear, so they obviously didn't put the nuts on. Now waiting for OH to arrive home so that we can jack it up and tighten them all correctly.

Trying to push the thoughts about what could have happened to the back of my mind

You shouldn't jack up the car to tighten the nuts .... do it with wheels on the ground! Go on girl .. you can do it!

You were lucky too Gil, cos I was passing the end of your road as you were waiting to pull out.

It was in NZ - by the AA!

Normally I'm a have-a-go type of girl but TBH I think it needs jacking up to make sure the wheels are on correctly as I've been driving it around - then you hand tighten, lower to the ground and fully tighten. I have changed wheels in the past, but I'm not prepared to jack up my current heavy beast of a car (Land Rover).

Does anybody know if there is an equivalent of Trading Standards here in NZ? I really am quite shocked at the way they've been left.

eek! I would imagine the AA would be the first port of call then.

Is it a silver one? or was that someone else?

The silver one - I did wave, not sure that you'd have known it was me though. I was off to the Plunket, or on the way back.

Someone is coming over to sort them out and check that no damage has been done to the wheel studs (or whatever OH called them, bolts to me)

I found a listing that may help. In case you don't get a good reaction from the AA themselves, you could get the person who is coming over to check the wheelnuts to write down what they find, for evidence.
