So, after an unbelievably quick 4 business days, I've been granted a work permit under the Study to Work policy.
Yay! Except that wasn't really what I applied for . . . I ticked the box for Essential Skills category, since I'm a registered teacher and have a permanent job offer and already plan to stay at least 3-4 years. No explanation given.
I called INZ two weeks ago and was advised to apply for the Essential Skills one because I am a teacher and it allows me to start a residence application in 6 months time, and to change schools if I so choose, and to stay on for up to 3 years. So, that's what I did.
Called INZ -- the call centre agent said that he didn't know why I was given a visa under a different policy then what I applied for, but said it is possible that I didn't meet the requirements somehow. He's going to have my case officer (who I never talked to -- 4 days between when it hit his desk and was issued, so that's not surprising) contact me, but possibly not till after the 5th when they reopen.
All in all, I am happy to have a work permit at all, and it is a relief to have it out of the way. But, it is only good for 1 year (rather then 3), and is single entry only, so no trips home either. And, I'll have to go through the process AGAIN in about 8 months to sort out a new one.
Anyone had any experience with the INZ changing the type of permit they issued? Or am I going to have to reapply to have it done?
Anecdotes and advice much appreciated!
Oh, and Happy Holidays!
