Hi, Hannah here (the new one)
Wonder if you could enlighten me :oops: by explaining a few jargon terms:

Mintie? (as in "there were MINTIES there :nice1 ")

PB (as in "my PB got an interview the next day :nice1 ")

TBH (as in "TBH I wasn't that bothered")

PM (as in "my email address is in my PM") - personal mailbox maybe??? where????

And how do you do that thing where you put someone's text in a little white box and then post a reply? ]

and how do you put your photo, or pictures of flowers, Homer Simpson etc. on the side where your planes are?

Sad questions I know, but I'm mighty proud of myself that i've even managed to get on to a forum - i don't normally do that techy stuff, I write cards and things.

But if anyone needs to know how much a 3 bed house fitted out with low energy 15 W bulbs costs to light 24/7 for a year i can tell you that!!!

And i know a bit about public health too (and NHS jargon), for any future employers perusing this site... :mrgreen:

Cheers, Hannah (it took me 2 attempts to even register on this site so go easy with me)

Oh, and what's a moderator? (Sorry Moorf)

I'm just nosy, that's all....

Hi Hannah (the new one). I will give it my best shot.

Mintie....as in mint sweets I think.
TBH....to be honest
PM.....Private message. There is a little box at the bottom of each post with "PM" in it. If you click on the box, you can send a message to the person who made the post. You can also do this by clicking on a memmbers profile and sending a PM from there. Good for stuff that is not relevant to the thread or maybe of a personal nature and not for sharing.

PB.....The only PB I can think of is Pakeha Boy, the other half of our one and only Diny.

As for posting pictures etc. well it gets a little more in depth for all that. If you want to PM me, I will gladly try and help. Although Iam sure you will get plenty of other offers.

Hi Hannah

As for putting quotes in the high-lighted box.

Click reply to message
When the message window comes up, click on the 'quote' box in the row of boxes above.
Then go to the piece you want to put in the quote box.
Highlite it then right click, click copy.
Go back to message box, right click and paste.
Click on the quote box above again

Then type the rest of your message as usual.

Reading back over that it makes naff all sense ..... but it will work I promise :hopeso

A moderator is someone who gets stroppy emails from people when they don't like something posted on the forum... :laugh :laugh and then has to do something about it... :?

On a more serious note, I just keep an eye on on the threads in the Lounge to make sure nothing gets out of hand :P This forum, being one of the best I've ever joined, rarely needs the intervention of a moderator, it's a very self-regulating crowd here :nice1 so welcome and here's a few more bits of jargon you might come across:

LOL - Laugh out Loud
OMG - Oh My God
TTFN - Ta Ta For Now
IMHO - In My Honest Opinion
IMO - In My Opinion
DH - Dearest Hubby/Husband
WTG - Way to Go!

:nice1

A lot of the initial jargon has crossed over from phone texting. there are a few dictionaries on the web, the ingenuity of some of the abreviations is amazing.

Another way is to copy the text you want, then paste it in between the quote 'tags', like this:

{quote}text goes here{/quote}

Important note: use these brackets [ and ], not { and }. I had to use the wrong ones in order to be able to demonstrate what you have to do.

UBB code, the code that does 'tricks' like quoting, is quite simple to learn. All you need to remember is that the 'start' part always has {something code} and the 'end' part always has {/something code} - note the / in the 'end' part.

So, to make something bold, do this: {b}text goes here{/b}

To make it italic, do this: {i}text goes here{/i}

To make it underlined, do this: {u}text goes here{/u}

To post a web address, do this: {url}address goes here{/url}

To post an image, do this: {img}image address goes here{/img}
(to get an image's address it has to be on the internet first. Right click on the image, then click on 'Properties' to get it's URL (address))

To make the text a different colour, do this: {color=red}text goes here{/color}

You can do this with these colours too:
Orange
Green
Yellow
Blue
Violet
Brown
Cyan

Just remember to use the [] brackets, not the {} ones. :nice1

pitures eh!

do a search for photobucket on this forum (think the url is www.photobucket.com)

then upload your piccys to this site.

Underneath each piccy is 3 boxes one is a html location for the particular piccy. Highlight and copy clip (CTRL+C) this

Then in your post on this forum paste (CTRL+V) the text you copy clipped and highlight it and double click the Img button (which will insert Img & /Img tags and hey presto will load the image from another website into this website.

To put Homer Simpson by your Airplanes

select your homer and make sure it doesnt exceed the maximum size (on this site)

upload it to Photobucket

and insert the html as the piccy above in your profile and it should load the image into your profile.

(ps I'm not a teacher so someone else will be able to explain better :nice1 )

At least I can reply to a PM (thanks Jes!!). as for references towards mobile phones and texts.... i don't do that either. Never had a mobile phone either!!!

That's what it should look like before you hit the 'Submit' button.

Except the brackets around the quote 'tags' should be these ones [ and ], not { and }.

:nice1 :mrgreen:

That technique is the manual way of doing quotes.

The 'automatic' way is to click on this http://www.emigratenz.org/forums/templates/subSilver/images/lang_english/icon_quote.gif link. (Don't try clicking on it in my post though, as it won't work here ;) )

To add who the quote 'belongs' to, just do this:

{quote="Hannah"}Text goes here{/quote}

Again, change the brackets to [ and ] :nice1
