Usually the offices are opening on 5th Jan. But most of kiwis are on vacation till mid of January. Those who are already in NZ will give us more precise information about this. :)

We are back tomorrow on the 5th, but we are a health provider. Lots of people are still away with the kids, because of the schools not going back until Feb 2.
Don't even get me started on childcare for working parents!:exit

In my experience, NZ closes down for the summer, with Business-As-Usual resuming after Waitangi Day! (that's Feb 6, a public holiday).

I work in a day care centre and actually we have been shut for only 6 days and we were unusual to close on 19th Dec rather than 23rd. So other centres will only have been shut for 4 days, if you take out the public holidays and weekends. But that's for under school age. Hence I have to go back 5th Jan.

I emailed my manager in NZ (future manager) and received a "auto out of office reply" saying that she will return to work on the 12th.
As this is a government agency i'm not sure if this is normal practice, ie the whole office is closed or if she is just on leave. Not sure if this helps but thats what I know.:nice1
