Hi all, this is for my parents who are travelling via SF in 3 weeks as I have only been through Singapore.
What is the transit lounge like at SF and are there any showers or other facilities?
Thanks

There are showers in the SF airport. I am not aware that there are any connected with the lounges, but there is a place called Hairport in Area G of the airport, where you can get a haircut, a shower or buy a lottery ticket! I have used it once and it was basic but fine, they supply a towel and a little bar of soap and there is room to keep your luggage with you in the room where the shower is. It cost $11 and I believe the hours are Mon-Sat 8am to 5pm. Nothing fancy, they can ask directions at the information desks--there are a few in the airport.
I have been in the United lounge ( associated with Star Alliance) and Continental, and neither have showers

Thanks for the info.
I am hoping someone may have travelled through recently as my parents are a bit nervous for the long journey.

San Fran is quite a decent place as far as airports go, if they have entrance to a lounge they can spend their time there relaxing, eating their snacks and drinks and catching up on the news. Its a short walk from there to the departure gate for Air NZ. You don't say where they are coming from, but if its from the UK or east coast and they are not in a lounge, there seem to be quite a lot of places where you can find a block of seats to sit down and read. There are a few cafes/food court places that are decent but nothing fancy. There is also a Museum shop there with some great stuff. there is a train linking the international and domestic terminals or you can walk it.
You could go online and find the link for the airport, and provide them with some info about where everything is.

That's great. Yes they are coming from the UK and it sounds like they can just roam around the international airport even though they are just passing through/waiting for the next flight? Different to the herding I have heard about at LAX, stuck in 1 place.
I have the airport link and the international terminal looks like it has plenty to pass the time.
Good to know they can move about.

Yeah, the international terminal is quite spacious. The seats are all large and wide, and I remember it being easy to find outlets to charge my computer, or cell phone. There are quite a few newstands, shops and food places, but it IS an airport. I haven't flown through SFO, only out of SFO, so I can't say for certain what the regulations are regarding moving around and out of the international terminal, but it's usually not the best idea to leave an international terminal unless you have heaps of time to get back through security again.
