We have had a quotation from a removals company for door to door service.

Included in the price is:-

Door to door from North west uk to Kaitaia
Full pack and un pack
350 cubic feet of goods including car in a 20ft container
Documentation
import customs clearence

Excludes:-

Parking permits or suspensions
quay rent or container demurrage
storage (we should not need any)
import or port duties/tax
customs or quarentine inspection
fumigation or cleaning
special equipment or lifting gear
tradesmen or maid service, marine insurance

The cost comes to £2600.

What do you all think?
There will no doubt be extra fees once the container arrives in NZ has anyone a rough gestimate of what these will be?
What do you think of the price?
The company is Simpsons Removals and Storage (i'm not advertising them as I don't know how good or bad they are), has anyone heard of them or used them in the past?

Any thoughts or observations would be greatly received.

Thanks all:nice1

Can't see any mention of them on this board, so guess no-one has used them or there were no problems.

Did do a search on movingscams (http://www.movingscam.com) and although they are mentioned on there a couple of times, they aren't there for problems.

The worst comment was that they were a bit slow in communicating something so doesn't seem too bad (all the other comments were good). They are also on there for reporting some freight companies for not being any good.

I guess if you aren't sure then make sure that you have good insurance cover. The other problem you may have in this time of recession is that they may go bankrupt, not sure how you can check on this, but it may make it difficult to get your goods back. I should note that I have no opinion as to whether they will go bankrupt and the risk is likely to be the same for any moving company you choose at the moment.

I was actually told about movingscam.com on this forum, it is mostly covering USA based moving companies but there is still some useful information on there for everyone else.

Interesting about "BAR", there was another forum member who had a problem recently with there moving company going bust, I wonder if they were members.

From "BAR" website

Financial Protection
The Code says that if your BAR remover cancels a removal more than 10 days before the agreed date for the work it must pay you back everything you paid to them. If it cancels less than 10 days before the agreed date it must pay you 150% of the monies paid. This means that you can be confident that your BAR remover will arrive to do the work on the agreed date.

If your BAR member is not able to do the work on the agreed day or pay the 150% refund, the BAR Pre-payment Protection Scheme will be speedily activated to have the work completed by another member or provide you with a full refund.

I think you have to pre pay to get the protection. They also have a customer complaint email address on their website for you to contact them.

Here (http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17776) is the thread you mentioned, it would appear that company was a member of BAR.

Not sure if this helps, but I shipped 315 cu ft for less than 1600 pounds. It seems your quote is a bit high? Or is it 350 plus a car? Still on the high side? Don't know for sure, I didn't have a car

That is a good price you got.

The quote we have is for 350cu ft, plus a car, sole use of a 20ft container. We have been quoted £1,700 just for the car.
Who did you use if you don't mind me asking?

if you are worried about a company's strength in the current climate, you can download their latest accounts from companies house for a pound and have a beak at their position.
