Hello all, we are new to this process and don't even know exactly what the blue stickers are.
We are just about to submit our application after leaving it till the last minute.
My question is: How long after the awarding of the visa do we have before we have to travel to NZ?
It's just that I have recently landed a well paying job and would like as much time in the UK as possible so we can build our savings.
Also can anyone tell me the terms of the visas? ie. how long do you have to be in NZ before the visas are permanent and you can travel wherever for as long as you want and still come back to live in NZ?
Thanks for the advice.

The blue stickers = PR visa
Once it's in your Pass Port you have 1 year to get to NZ...
You will get a Returning Resident Visa(RRV) when you get PR (I'm not sure if it's the same thing or another sticker in the pass port...) The RRV will allow you to travel in and out of NZ... And then after 2 years in NZ you can apply for the Indefinite Returning Resident Visa (IRRV)

It is due to the fact that the visa is a blue sticker that is stuck inside the passport.

dougle00,
An option to consider is to travel to NZ only for a short holiday within a year from the issue of the blue sticker just to validate the visa before it expires (all those family members included in your application should travel to NZ too). You will be given a RRV that is valid for 2 years from the date of the first landing in NZ. After the short trip to NZ, you can then return to the UK and continue working for up to 2 more years before your need to relocate to NZ for longer term, i.e. before your 2-year RRV expires. If you do this however, you won't get your IRRV at least until approximately 1.5 years after you relocate to NZ to clock sufficient time to meet the IRRV requirement. There is also the extra cost of making a short trip to NZ. But the advantage is you get up to 2 more years to build your savings in the UK.

I emailed the CO who issued ITA and explained the delay in NZQA assessment and problems getting police certificate. I asked for 4 weeks extension but she extended for whole month. Don't know if they will extend over one month.
