Can anyone provide names or links to the most common mobile phone providers in NZ, please? Getting connected cell phone wise is probably one of the first things we'll need to do after arrival (which is in two weeks time, yikes!)

And do most people take out contracts or is Pay As You Go more popular?

no worries. :)

If you go for a contract you can only have one as long as your permit. So watch out when looking at contracts to see that they don't require a longer time than you have on your permit.

I'm on Vodafone pay as you go, and I've added bestmates too for $6 a month. OH added it too so now we talk for as long as we want with no worries. We had unlocked all our phones before we got here and just popped in the sim card we bought when we got when we arrived.

Think of Telecom as the NZ equivalent of BT - but no they are not the same company.
