Look on here http://www.nzno.org.nz/Site/Sector_Groups/DHB_Sector_Group.aspx#67244-2 page 16-17 of the NZNO DHB MECA April 2007 – March 2010. This gives the current DHB pay scales.

You should start at step 2 which is currently NZ$46,383 rising to NZ$48,238 after 31st March for NZNO members (check the MECA for more details).

It will be no doubt slightly different if you are going to be a PSA member?

Just to let you know, I do not have one years experience as a fully registered nurse yet (qualified march 2008) and I have been started on $48,238, when I arrive in July. So I guess the amount is not set in stone.

If you are working for one of the DHBs then the amount is pretty much set in stone. The only real difference is which union you are with i.e. PSA or NZNO.

What doesn't appear to be set in stone is the "step" i.e. "On appointment, the employer shall place employees on any step of the relevant scale,..."

So it would appear that your employer will start you on step 2.

TBH, the way I read the MECA you probably should start on step 2 and libra81 probably should start on step 3 which would be higher than the previous values quoted.

However, AFAIK most nurses with 2 years experience start at step 2 so best to use that as a figure until actualy wage confirmed by the employer.

Thanks for the info Ian, it's good to have a ball park figure in your head, and i guess anything above that is a bonus

Hi there! We're planning to apply for immigration to NZ with me as the principal applicant... could you give me an idea as to which licensure exam i should take for NZ? do I have to pass the NCLEX or CGFNS?

The CGFNS and NCLEX are only for entering the USA as an RN. You need to check out the nursing council website for information on entering NZ. www.nursingcouncil.org.nz
Hope this helps.
