Hi people,
One month in NZ and loving it. We left the Philippines on Feb 10 to stay in Singapore for 3 days (should've been straightaway to Auckland but our motel bumped us off because of the Rod Stewart Mission Concert). Got to Hawkes Bay on a sunny Sunday and have been enjoying since.
My partner had to start work the next day (he was still tired and sleepy) so I had to stay in the lodge. Got to walk in the Havelock North Village which was really lovely. We were able to sort out our bank accounts with no trouble (except that BNZ asked for a lot of documents so we decided to go for National Bank). Within one week we were able to find a house to rent (230 pw for a 2BR). A bit expensive but rentals here in Hastings are scarce and we just had to grab the first one we found. We're moving to a cheaper one at 200 pw by the end of next month. We were also able to buy a car, a 1994 Honda Ascot 2.0 for 7.6K. Not bad!
I have been sending out my CVs to different companies but no luck still. I'm in a really technical field (engineering) so vacancies arent really there. But I'm really not in a hurry. I'm still enjoying everything. And hey, my partner can support me comfortably so what's the rush! Kidding aside, I do hope I find a job so I'm not bored at home.
We're loving it here. The weather has been kind to us folks coming from a tropical country. Not that cold (yet!) and not that warm either. But the sun can really scorch you! Kiwis have really been friendly. They would really go out of their ways to help us. Made me feel all warm inside. Driving was a bit of a challenge at first (we used to drive on the right hand side of the road) so we had to be really aware. But now, its all so natural.
I havent logged into ENZ for a long time as I'm just accessing the internet in a cafe. But the good news is, our stuff has been cleared by customs and will be on our doorstep early next week. So once the computer is set up, I'll be back.
We're here on WTR. Our EOI was selected Dec 8 and until now we're still selected! We had our application transferred to Palmerston North and I've called NZIS twice to ask how our application is going. I would like to call more often but I dont want to get on anyone's nerves.
Jodie, how'd you handle yours? I remember it took a long time for you, too, from selection to ITA. How often did you call NZIS? I'm getting impatient! But, hey, I'm here already, and we have our eyes set on PR. For those who are on the same boat or have experienced a long wait, please share your stories and make us feel relaxed with this whole migration process.
Will post more stories next time. Cheers!
