Hello, we're new to the forum and wondered whether we could could pick someones brain,
We are hoping to immigrate early next year and we're currently hunting for jobs online.
Hence the thread, does anyone know if whether there is a need for learning disability nurses in NZ? There seems to be some within forensic LD, but my experience is within childrens services LD CAMHS, Does anyone know what services are available for children with LD so I can target them with my CV? I am also a qualified playtherapist, but playtherapy doesn't seem to exist in NZ, or is it called something else?
WOW does it get easier?
I know it will be worth it, but wow!!

Have you managed to navigate your way through all of this? or are you still in the throws of things yourself?

Hi again Angela,
Yes, we have navigated, stressed, waited and stressed some more :laugh (see my signature), finally arriving here almost two years ago. Best decision we ever made, we feel we are 'home' and are very happy here :clap !
Cheers,

Hi and welcome to the forum.
We could probably give you some info on Forensic LD but not childrens sorry.
You say you are looking for jobs, have you considered one of the nursing agencies? They don't cost you anything and will really help you through the whole process including finding the right job.

Hi Guys,
We attended an expo last October at Olympia, there were several agencies and one of the DHB's in attendance, all of whom were very helpful. Sharon(RNMH) now has a job offer from the DHB. I believe there is another expo at the NEC in March which may be worth a look if you arent so far away.
Do you have a preferred destination?, you could look up the District Health Boards on line and post to them.

Thanks Ian,
We have a friend in Wellington who used an agency and we had planned to use one but wasn't sure how that affects a visa. Both my friend and the immigration consultant recommended applying for residency rather than a work visa, can you still access an agency if you do it that way?
Have you managed to navigate your way across?
Did you use an agency? would an agency arrange registration with the new zealand nursing counsel? It's quite nice to learn that an agency don't charge you anything, especially when we've just found out how much it will cost ot take our basset hound with us!!
Thanks for your help

Dear Sharon and Steve,
Great news on the job offer, is that you set now? or have you already taken the leap?
Did Sharon just send her CV to all of the DHB's?
Do you mind me asking what kind of role she has been offered?
did she use an agency?
Thanks for your help

Not sure why you are using an immigration consultant, most people can handle it all without one, especially nurses as they can get loads of help from nursing agencies - I know that we did.
The nursing agencies will help to find you a job, guide you through the interview process etc, help with registration and answer any questions that you can think of.
They will prefer you to get a WTR as it is quicker, but that's your choice so you can still go for PR (which I would recommend).
If you haven't started registration yet, then I would get on with this as it can take some time.
The nursing agencies don't have all the jobs available so don't rely on them unless of course they have one that you are interested in.

Not sure about nursing, but certainly for physiotherapsits your qualifications have to be assessed by the physio board in NZ. The form is about 40 pages long and the fee is circa $600, non refundable if you muck it up. I would imagine nursing is similar.
