Dating NZ Style...

I have a friend who is going to Welly in August ( BUNAC visa) and she asked me if I knew any NZ dating etiquette ie: who pays (or split check) when you go out, do co-workers date, who asks whom out, etc. I answered that I'm not even sure of dating etiquette in CA:o
Does anyone have advice or stories to offer? Any and all dating advice would be useful!

I'm not sure about much else but it seems that when my kiwi friends go out for the night they always end up spending the night with someone.

Not really dating, but it was really surprising to me at first.

Actually I wondered about that but wasn't sure how to ask! So I guess kissing on the 1st date is OK?:laugh

yea I would say kissing would be fine. ;)

But then it always depends on who it is as everyone has their own opinions on it.

On first date split the cheque and you split for ever. I remeber somewhere on msn.com they wrote "Ten things you must avoid on first date" and one of it was was to pay full rathe rthan splitting up.

By the way I always paid- but no positive outcome at the end. Any advice

I was watching a Kiwi comic recently doing stand up.........

"we don't really have a dating culture here in NZ. We have what I like to call a drinking and rooting culture"

drinking and rooting! LOL I believe that fits accordingly

I've some personal experience of dating in NZ as the first time I visited I was single. I didnt find it much different than dating in the states. One difference being NZ was more casual and relaxed. Going to the beach, bbq's, and gathering with friends.

I just grilled my kiwi friends about this recently. Apparently it's very common for a guy and a girl to go out on the town in some fashion, dinner, see a movie, whatever, without it being a date. So you have to be clear upfront about it being a date, instead of asking someone of the opposite sex to do something with you. Guys are generally expected to initiate things. Kiwis are very prone to hooking up/staying overnight.
