Problem. Ok so my OH was here in the states for six months. While he was here I applied for a temp work visa under partnership. NZ embassy DC branch sent it back to me saying that because Ive spent so many days outside of the united states they want medicals and my application is incomplete.

In the mean time the OH went back to NZ because his B-2 Visa for the states expired. Ive completed my medicals and have everything ready to resubmit but today while reading over paperwork I realized this is what it states:

evidence that demonstrates they are living together with that partner in a genuine and stable partnership at the time their application is made.

Does that mean before I resubmit I'll have to fly to NZ so we are technically "living together" when I submit the application?

anyone have experiences with this?

You can submit your application now, even though you are apart at the moment, but you may have to submit some additional evidence to show how you are maintaining your relationship while you are apart.

In the operations manual under "Evidence of living together in a partnership that is genuine and stable" (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/i5283.htm) it says,

If a couple has been living separately for any period during their partnership, they should provide evidence of the length of the periods of separation, the reasons for them, and how their relationship was maintained during the periods of separation, such as letters, itemised telephone accounts or e-mail messages.

If I were you I'd write a quick note explaining the situation to include in your application, and include copies of your phone bill/ emails/ or anything else that shows you are still in a genuine and stable relationship despite being apart right now.

Just incase anyone comes across this in the future.

I called my case officer today and she replied that we had to be physically together when the application is turned in. Thus requiring me to fly to NZ and lodge my application while my partner and I are on the same soil.

: ) looks like im leaving for NZ next week then!
