There used to be a couple of people trying to get you to sign up at the local mall so it must have a presence in NZ.
But I don't think its a big one, most people just use EFTPOS.
Certainly wouldn't rely on it as your only credit card.

IanI've spent the last couple of weeks gingerly asking "do you take amex?" at every store I have been to, expecting them to say no, but so far they all been quite happy to accept my AMEX card.

Fairly good acceptance in a range of shops ans restaurants etc - but not accepted everywhere, so definately have another option for payment.
Are you transferring an existing account from the UK directly with Amex? When I did that they did not offer the same facilities in NZ as I had in the UK, so expect a drop in credit limit etc on your account here.

our bank offered us both mastercard and amex credit cards, so I guess it isn't too much of a problem :D

I still have my UK one as they don't charge, saying that I only use it for UK purchases over the net , seems OK to keep it going & I still get Nectar points:) I'm sure using it here would incur charges though
