Hi,

Just got back from medicals, all was well except my blood pressure on the day was at 150/100. This is higher than the normal 130/90 or so, which is a little on the high side.

Doc doing medical said I'd have to go to see GP and then get to see a consultant physician who'd do a report from there.

Main cause (being honest) I guess of my BP is likely to be because I am a little on the rotund size - BMI of just under 38.

Anyone know what's likely to happen from here? Am double worried as final cut off for medicals to get to NZIS is 18/4.

Off to see GP tomorrow but would appreciate anyone else's thought's or experiances on this.

Cheers,

Yogi.

Medicals themselves raise blood pressure, what's called the white coat syndrome. Its wise to take a few readings and see if goes down once you become used to your new clinical environment. I can't advise on NZIS policy on this but would suggest getting your BMI down will almost certainly have a swift impact on your BP (if your reading is generally high and not just due to the 'excitement' of the medical

Dont worry too much about your BMI I got my PR with a BMI of 38 no worries you just have to have a glucose tolerance test to test for diabetes (I tested positive ...bit of a shock) my blood pressure was 74/124 or something like that but after a letter from my doc saying what a goood egg I was got the "golden ticket " in me passport on dac 13th... now if only I could sell the bl**dy house

Weird - I just posted a new thread with the same topic. Dave's BP was 178/90. His BMI is only 24.2 though.

Help anybody out there with the same problem and got through.
