Does anyone know if you automatically get refered to the Medical Assessor if your waist is over the limit by a couple of cm and you need the extra bloods?

or

Does the Dr doing the medical look at the results of the extra bloods and make a decision to refer you or not.

For those that know/think you will need the extra fasting bloods (lipids and glucose) OH is getting them done free of charge from our GP. It is worth while asking, its just saved us £40.

Hey there,

I think in the fine print on the medical, if the person has a BMI greater than 35 or the waist goes over 88cm for women or 120cm for men, it has the doctor order more fasting tests, like glucose and lipids. Just as a precaution. But everything checks out, I think things will be okay. I am not an authority on that, just going by previous threads on here as well as what the medical paperwork says. Hope this helps and good luck! :nice1

It's up to your CO if you get referred to the MA or not really. Especially with just minor things like a few cm over waist.
Your CO may choose to refer you to the MA and the MA may sign off as ok if there is not much wrong.

I think the only thing it DEFINITELY means is that you have to have the extra tests and it is the outcome of these that will/will not be an issue for the MA to deal with.
The doc doing your medical is the one to write if there is any significant findings, and then, if he does this it is passed to your CO who may/may not referr you to the MA.

Quite frankly is you are talking only about a couple of cm then I can't see it being a problem as long as the rest of the medical comes back ok. The doc may well just pull the tape measure really tight anyway!

Are you getting nervous yet Marybelle? It's the 30th isn't it? Good luck!

If you think that the measurments are going to be over, it may be an idea to arrange the appointment in the morning and skip breakfast anyway. It can save the time and trouble for returning for the extra tests, if you are required to fast.

Its amazing how as these things get closer your mind starts to twist things you thought you knew!

Thanks for you replies everyone, OH BMI is fine but aprox 2cm over waist measurment so hopefully it will all go ok.

Keeping everything crossed :yes
