if you have a job offer, isnt it easier to get a work permit.. no medicals and no police certs and then apply for PR once on the ground? you get more points as well after 12 months?
ignore all that, just saw another thread which covers it :nice1

Too late, I've already answered :nice1
Depends on your definition of easier?
It will certainly be quicker.
Having to apply for work permit and then PR is clearly more effort than just applying for PR.
If there should be some reason why you won't be granted a PR then moving your life to NZ and then having to go back 'home' would surely be expensive.
Without the medicals you won't have any free health coverage so again may not be good.
If your work permit is only for 12 months then its possible that your PR won't come through in time and so you will either need to get an extension or leave.
If you have any children in tertiary education then they would have to pay international fees.

Hi there, well I'm applying for a work visa under the accredited employer (talent) with a job offer and we still have to supply medicals and police certs. I guess people like to go down the PR route because once you have it you have it, rather than having to apply for residency after 2 years (with the work visa route) the way we're doing it suits us, but I guess some people feel more comfortable without that chance of INZ not letting you stay after 2 years :)

we applied for work permits as PR took to long is only 95GBP we had already done meds and police certs so we linked them it also meant we could get student visas and of cause health cover we were granted 2.5yrs mine took 5 days
