I'm going up to London tomorrow to lodge our applications (Work visas x 2 and student visa for son). I have heard talk about providing them with TWO copies of all the evidence, is that right?
And the only originals they want (apart from the completed applications) are the passports right? Everything else can be copies? Thanks:nice1

The police and medical are the only things that should certainly be originals. Everything else is optional, passports as well until sticker stage...then they need originals :)
We only provided one copy (plus original or certified copy) of everything except for medicals and police checks. You don't actually need to provide copies in addition to certified copies but we did in a few cases.

yeah it's the multiple meaning of the word copy that's a bit confusing here.

you need to provide everything in duplicate (except medical form and application form) this is 1 x original + 1 x photocopy or 1x certified photovopy + 1 x photocopy

Does that help or muddy the waters even further? :)

I just sent the originals of everything as well as a photocopy of it all. None of it certified because the originals are right there for them to look at.

Hey there,

We made one copy of all the originals. The only thing we did not make a copy of is our marriage liscence because it is a certified copy.

Good luck!:nice1

Is there anywhere on the website that mentions this? I'm not sure I've seen anything saying you need to provide copies of anything?

Its all explained in the letter from INZ when you receive your ITA.

I am in New Zealand though so won't need an ITA presumably?

Depends on the application I think.
For the ITA certainly you need copies, other applications I'm not so sure.
We didn't provide copies of anything in my application for a work permit based on my husbands work permit and there was no issue, so if that is what you are doing then there should be no problem. On the other hand in the application we didn't provide any original documents or certified copies as everything was tied up in our ITA. If we had provided things like our marriage certificate or tenancy agreements (for proof of partnership) then I probably would have included photocopies as it gives NZIS a copy to refer to (and mangle in lieu of :D) other than the original.

If you apply for PR in the skills stream (the most common) it does not matter where you are, you have to fill in an EOI.

Having no idea what your applying for (put it in your sig), I found you are applying via the family stream which does not have an ITA. I've not looked into that stream but it seems you can just apply straight off including all your information, so INZ never send you anything until after they have received this application pack. I also can not find anything that states you need multiple copies of the documents, not even in the checklist. Ask when you hand it in I guess. Take copies anyway, just in case they loose something so you know what you sent in!

Update on the copies saga: I doublechecked the NZIS operating manual on their site before I went up last Friday. They quite correctly do not mention providing copies. They do mention something about providing originals where possible. The only originals I lodged were the passports and the police certs (and the medical certs of course). This was all fine with NZIS. Also and despite the advice I'd read about no plastic folders or paperclips I DID use these. For all 3 applications I paper-clipped the actual application form together and then put all the evidence (with a sheet of A4 paper as a header - detailing exactly what evidence was there and in the right order - against the questions) I left the medical documents as we received them 9stapled). I put the evidence in one of those A4 clear plastic wallets (the ones that open on 2 sides). They were happy with this.
On a related note about waiting times at NZ House in London: I arrived at about 12.30 in the afternoon. took a ticket and sat down....for a whole 20 seconds... before I was called in:clap the immigration officer did say I'd arrived at a good time, I was his last person before he went off for his lunch. He said that we would hear from our case officer within 5 working days, telling us either that a) we have the visas :nice1T or b) that they need more info on the medical issues. The next 5 days are going to be the longest ever :uhoh

when you post yuour application rather than hand it in it goes to a post room, where they open all the post and sort it into piles to go to the correct person - this, I imagine, is why they prefer things not to be in folders etc as it makes more work for the people who work in the post room.

that makes sense..but no wonder things get lost;)

Most of the 'folder' comments are directed at the ITA and not work visas so it might not be much of an issue in your case as the application is simpler.

Of course you don't actually know for sure that they were (really) happy with the folders, they may have just been polite.

Cheers, you've pretty much confirmed what I thought.

Sorry, should have mentioned family stream - nothing in my sig as I haven't handed it in yet. This week hopefully though when my police certificate arrives! :clap
