I think you have to live here Neil. From their Terms and Conditions:
BECOMING A MEMBER
3.1 Becoming a Member: Becoming a member is free. You may only register as a member if you are resident in New Zealand or Australia and can form a legally binding contract that is enforceable against you. For example, you must be 18 years old. By registering as a member, you warrant that you can form a legally binding contract.
Ts and Cs here: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Help/Topic.aspx?help_id=143
Personally I would not recommend a personal ad as it may be in breach of this:
SPECIFIC WARNINGS
2.1 The services: Trade Me provides a venue to introduce members who want to buy and sell items.
and it kind of smacks of desperation, tbh. I remember the anxiety and, well, desperation at wanting to land something, but believe me, there are still opportunities for skilled, good people here and you will find them when you come. Not long to go now....fingers crossed for you,
Gil

Even if you obtained a membership - they track IP address locations and suspend accounts logging in from overseas! I was on business in China last year and logged in twice to sort out a trade - 2 days later the account was suspended and I got a nasty accusing email from them!

We tried to register from the UK (not having read the T & Cs properly - my own fault) and two days later I received a message asking if I was outside NZ and if so, when I was returning. After confirming I would be in NZ in arch, the account was then suspended!
We just wanted to try to check out options for accommodation, but we'll just have to find another way!
At least we know we can register when we get there

We used OH friends address in Auckland to register from the UK, we did ask for their permission first, do you know anyone in NZ who you could ask.

You can put your CV on Q Jumpers website it a portal for employers to look at CV. But no much of a list of jobs on there depends, what you do.

I registered when on our recce last November and have had use of it for the last 12 months. I think a car dealer i contacted dobbed me in when i contacted them (or i was caught out because i contacted them it was my first question to anyone on Trademe since signing up) last week to ask about a car they had for sale next thing i got was a mail from TM (a very nice one mind) saying that as i was out of NZ i could not be a member and they cut me off.
Only problem was that the mail addy was a noreply one which i discovered after i had mailed them to explain i would be there in February and ask how i could get my membership back.........oh well will have to wait and see.
Moral of the tale is if you are lucky enough to have membership outside of NZ dont contact anyone to ask any possible buying questions or you will be found out.

Hopefully you will be able to get a more positive response on your recce?

Try posting your CV here;
www.newkiwis.co.nz
I still get the odd random call from employers on there, wanting to know if I'm interested.
It's funded by NZIS.;)
