After breaking my foot last week  , a wonderful friend of mine took me to Aldi( loves me bargins me :P ).
As i hobbled around i was approched by an elderly man who asked what i had done.
After giving him the blurrb for the umpteeth time,he asked if i had been to see the accident people. Thinking he ment A&E said well ,yes , pointing at my bright yellow cast.
No,no, the compensation people.
"It was an accident ,i was the one who turned on my ankle and broke myfoot whilst stepping off the curb ,it was nobodies fault.
" Well you should make it someone elses ,you could get a bit of money for that"
:wah
There was no getting through to him, that actually , it was my fault, bad luck, not my day ,whatever.
That is the British culture now; Always someone elses fault, get as much money as you can, get what you can get. A free holiday to Florida :wah

Hi Chips

I had a similar incident a few years ago - I slipped down a couple of stairs in a nightclub at about 1am after large consumption of vodka! :laugh :laugh
This didn't seem to deter the street sellers tho of no win no fee!

Whats gets about me about the compensation advert on TV is they don't mention
the disadvantages of claiming.

1) Your insurance premiums go up

2) Companies claimed successfully against have their iinsurance premiums increased
which leads the, to raise their prices or cut cots, i.e. cut staff.

The ACC scheme in NZ sounds one of the sanest government policies I've heard
off (although I have no idea how effective it is in practise). I hope the NZ government
has banned TV ads from those loan shark companies as well. *:)

Rgds.,
Nick.

Nick - that's exactly what they are .... loan sharks (operating under a seemingly innocent guise).

To contribute an amusing slant to the subject - there's 2 kinds of adverts on the telly which are guaranteed to make my hubby fling his slipper at the screen.

The first are those 'claims direct - no win no fee' adverts.

The second ......any advert to do with those ladies products that have wings, enable you to swim whenever you want and are apparently 'speaking your body's language'. (know what I mean?).

sorry about your foot, chips. hope it's ok now.

the generation today is a "sue you" one; many people, rather than accept another's apology or just grin ruefully and admit one's clumsiness, would gleefully think of how much to take from somebody else. if one slides down a curb or walkway, if there is no sign that says 'Caution, slippery when wet", that person who slid would be able to sue the mall or dept store or whoever is in front of that curb or walkway. maybe there are times when one has to fight for his rights, but oftentimes everything is best left as they are, and chalk it up to experience. (Of course, there is the matter of medical attention which is exorbitant to begin with, especially if you don't personally know any doctors around, hehehe. so if there is a settlement, you don't have to pay anything! :laugh )

oh well, i suppose lawyers have to earn their keep too...

:eek

(the practice won an emmy, did they? or did everything go to the sopranos?)

cheers

I know - it's really funny isn't it. The thing is though .... he then starts having a go at me, ranting that prime time telly is no place for such adverts !!!!!

Yeah right - as if I'm responsible for the ad being shown !!

I like my steak rare.
Sometimes I like to watch the news on TV while eating it.
Why on earth do they even have to advertise those things AT ALL??
Let alone prime time meal time!

As for those claim shames, I was stationary at a round about on a motorbike and got a very slight bump from behind, enough to just lose my balance and stumbled/stepped of my bike and landed on my backside.
I even had close family members telling me to get into the doctors with whiplash?? Its a damn shame. What would our grandparents think of us today eh? Why did millions die in 2 great wars to enable us to have this society today. And the ones that didn't die, we cannot even look after them with pension funds let alone simple heating and common decency. Its all wrong wrong wrong, and it seems to be everywhere.
Politicians and fat cats have a lot to answer for!
Whooops, that all came spilling out a bit didn't it?? damn TV!!!

New subject....
Diny, of all the photos we have of you, you choose the one when you had dayglo pink hair?? What, oh what am I going to do with you??
