well... the other evening, despite recovering from a flu like virus, mrs V and me sat down to discuss a few things regarding where we're at and what our plans are. kind of like a project management meeting for our family. there are things that we have learned over the last year...

we know a whole lot more about the immigration process, most of it thanks to you guys for all your help and comments.

we can move to new zealand, its really down to how we choose to go about it.

if we really want to sell our house, we will have to walk away with a loss.

that looking for a job is no different whether you are looking in the Uk or anywhere else. the same market forces are in play and it all comes down to getting in front of people.

that deciding to go on a recce trip was a good decision for us after mulling the "should we, shouldnt we" approach.

that despite the media and the government mantra of fear and distrust, the vast majority of people inc. total strangers are more than happy to help and also to accept help.

that our children are well balanced and that keeping lines of communication open is important while not allowing their views to become policy!

that the UK weather is restrictive in terms of personal happiness and that we would like to spend more time outdoors as a family but cant in the UK

that 50% of the emigration mental battle is about leaving family behind which we are lucky not to have as an issue.

that an emigration plan doesnt have to be forever and even if we ultimately dont belong in NZ after living there, there are plenty of other places without feeling we have to return to the UK.

the more information you find out, the more informed you become but ultimately you're still back to square one in that you need to find out for yourself and form your own opinions that are right for you and your family.

all depends on our trip really.. I think we are trying to take our destiny into our own hands rather than keep reacting to external forces!

Yup, agree with all you say; we were pretty much in the same boat. Certainly agree about the weather; it IS significantly better here in the Waikato.

Good luck!

That's what we did, otherwise we would have been stuck in the UK for who knows how long!

100% - I have had all sorts of things thrown in my way during this process, and still have a ways to go, but I made the decision a while ago that unless I throw every possible thing at staying here I will leave regretting not giving it my best shot.

If I do everything within my power, and it still doesn't work out, then maybe it was meant to be... if I don't though, I will end up stuck back in cold miserable london hating life and feeling like I have no where else to go....

life is a journey isn't it?

Spot on.... I don't think you necessarily appreciate these points until you climb aboard the rollercoaster.
You can choose how you make it to NZ and to some extent there will never be a "perfect" time - there are always things out of your control like the economy, but it is about how much you want to give it a try.

All the best with the reccie and you'll enjoy the weather!!!!
