You lucky thing. I'm waiting for mine to come through so if you don't mind me asking, how long did it take for your registration to come through?

Hi David
I sent my application towards the end of November so it really didn't take long including Christmas and a problem with one of my references (make sure whoever writes them puts a date on!). Hope you don't have to wait too long. It's a great feeling when you get that certificate!

Thanks for that, I sent mine off in December so hopefully I'll hear from them soon. At the moment I'm like the children on a long journey saying 'is it here yet, is it here yet....'.

That's great news, congratulations. If you've signed up with a nursing agency, then it won't be long until you've got a job offer... best of luck with all your plans :nice1

Congratulations Rosie! I am still waiting to hear back from the NZ Midwifery Council, but didn't send my application off until Jan, so another couple of weeks at least I guess.... Still, heard today from Whakatane Hospital - job contract being sorted today and hospital accomm booked for 1st June! Let me know when you hear about your job.
Hopefully see you there! Debs xxx.

Hi,
I am an RN from the US and I just received my registration from the nursing council a few days ago- phew!
Forgive me for making this a tedious e-mail but my experience with the council was a bit frustrating. It took a lot of follow up on my part and I wanted to encourage any of you who have applied to follow up regularly with the council while they process your application. I had heard stories prior to applying that the council is slow, that they lose documents and are not prompt in their replies. This was, indeed, my experience.
I submitted my application in late Aug 08.
Received a letter in late September saying they hadn't received 2 of my character reference letters. I had put one of the letters in the mail many weeks earlier so I knew they should have received it by then. I e-mailed the council a few days later and by then they had received one of the letters but were still waiting on the other one. My colleague did send it and I followed up via e-mail and it had finally arrived in their hands by mid-October.
In mid-October I received a letter in the mail saying that they needed my nursing school to clarify the number of clinical hours I had during my schooling. They told me I could have my nursing school e-mail the info. My nursing school e-mailed the info that day. My contact at the nursing school said that she had "sent the same information with the original application" and was baffled as to why they were asking her to send the same info again.
No word from the council as of the end of November 08. I e-mailed to check that they received the info from my nursing school and received an e-mail back a few days later saying that they had NOT received it and could the school please send it again? My nursing school sent it again that day and I e-mailed my contact at the council to let them know it had been sent again. I received another e-mail a few days later and was told that they had still not received the information via e-mail and asked to have my nursing school send it via regular mail. Then the council was closed for holiday. When they returned the first week of January, I received an e-mail from the council saying that they had indeed found the e-mail from my nursing school in their general mail box (precisely where they asked us to send the info) and after an apology, they said that I would be notified in writing of the outcome.
My nursing registration arrived on January 31, 2009.
I had been told that the process generally takes 6-12 months so I came in under that (about 5 months) despite the difficulties I encountered.
Good luck! And be persistent!
