I´m a tv junkie and have been searching the web for cable tv companies in Auckland......haven´t found any.
In sky, there are lots of channels but........where am I going to watch all my favourite series? (Lost, Grey´s Anatomy........)
Does any one have any info and aproximate monthly cost??
thanks!!

Don't think there is cable in NZ, just Sky.
Other than Sky I think there are 4ish broadcast channels that carry many of the popular shows. (Don't have TV so can't say for sure, but that's what I hear!) You can get freeview http://www.freeviewnz.tv/ as well.

This is what I like about NZ, most up to date TV shows are aired on normal channels and not pay TV :)

They are a little bit behind the schedule they have in the US though. I think they're about six months behind. I'm watching episodes of House MD that are new here that I already saw in the US.
I was just commenting to my OH the other night how I like the aired TV here better. In the US you had to have cable to find good shows, but here after 7pm I have a hard time turning off the TV because there's always another good show or decent movie coming on!
I swear I've watched more decent movies on TV here since I got it (about a week or two ago) than I did on cable in the states for the past couple of years. If I wanted to watch a decent movie I'd have to rent it.

I think it depends what programs you're used to and how much you watch. I only watch an hour or two of TV in the evenings at the most and it seems the programs I liked in the states just happen to be on at that time. :)

That makes you not a junkie in my book, dilanium! I can go a couple of weeks without watching anything, so I'm hardly someone to lsiten to!

Lost season 5 starts here this month, which makes NZ one month behind the US. It depends on the series.

Um I think you'll find there is cable in New Zealand and very good it is too!
Telstra Clear offer Digital TV, Internet and Phone. They were voted the best internet provider and offer good speeds and contention.
I have recently moved house from one where I couldn't get cable (it was the back of a block) to one where I can. The cost of phone, TV and Internet are very similar for a full Telstra package or a mixture of Telecom, Sky and a WorldNet - about $140 per month. (10Mbt/2Mbt Internet, 40Gbt download per month, standard Sky channels and phone line with no call packs)
Oh the only problem is ......Telstra is only available in Wellington, Kapiti, and Christchurch (the other south side of the Bombay Hills) :)

Actually Telstra Clear offer Digital TV via cable in Wellington, Kapiti Coast and Christchurch.
Not that it covers each area 100% though.
You beat me too it, Jan :nice1

Can you get WorldNet in Welly? The website seems to indicate only in the Auckland region ...

The other alternative for watching UK tele (if you can't live without it), is to buy something called a Slingbox. Essentially it let's you watch and control a Cable box/Sky/Freeview box from the UK over the internet. It does require that you know someone in the UK to maintain the box and have an internet connection too. But essentially you will be able to watch all your favourite TV programmes from the UK on your computer.
Won't be ideal for a lot of people, especially if you're already in NZ, but worth thinking about if you have yet to move over. I agree with above posts that terrestial TV in NZ looks pretty good, e.g. Lost/24, which you have to get Sky in the UK to see. But if you want to watch Premiership Football or any BBC, C4 programmes (e.g. Apprentice, Gordon Ramsey Kitchen nightmares etc) not shown on NZ TV, then it's something to consider.

Actually these programs are also shown on NZ TV (without needing Sky).

Good question.
Hard to know without tracking the programs in each country.
For Kitchen Nightmares we have just aired Season 2 Episode 6 which was originally aired (in US?) on 30th October 2008, so not too far behind.
Personally I would say that some US series are actually shown in NZ ahead of the UK and some behind.
If you are into UK soaps then they are way behind the UK.
