Schooling for visiting Grand-daughter

We are UK citizens who have lived in NZ for 4 years and have NZ residency. Our 14 year old grand-daughter is likely to be coming to live with us in Hamilton for 6 months as a visitor. Does anyone have any knowledge or information how we can ensure she continues to receive schooling while in NZ.
I have seen paperwork relating to a student permit, but is this really necessary for a 14 year old only here for no more than 6 months and only because of a family situation in the UK.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

If she only comes over for 6 months it will be on a visitors visa, I don't believe she can go to school on that. I would suggest contacting INZ for your options, I have seen this on the INZ site however:
People on visit or work permits who want to study
If you’re here on a visitor or work permit and you want to study full time for longer than three months, you need to apply for a student permit.
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/study/application/default.htm
It shows full time study for between 6months and 12 months, and more than 12 months.

You could try and contact a few schools and their International Students' Co-ordinators. They may have some idea. Use the TKI website for info.

I am remembering a somewhat similar story a couple of months back. The person asked the schools and managed to get the child enrolled in school without having to pay any fees. Can't rmember the details though, try a search it might come up

what about home schooling, its nowhere near as scary as it sounds. PM me if you want any further thoughts on it. if you ask around the area you may find there is a few people who do it. I know there is a group in christchurch. try a google search.
other option is just to approach the local schools and ask their advice.
let us know how you get on.
