Well we arrived on Monday, flew via Dubai with Emirates & had a weeks stopover.
Flights were ok, probably preferred Singapore, but no complaints with Emirates really. All 4 kids were fantastic on the flights. We only had 20k's each but we wouldn't have managed to transport or carry any more!
Kids started school 2 days after we arrived, little apprehensive but came out very happy, infact as today is Waitangi day, there is no school, but they still wanted to go! We had a chuckle at our youngest little boy who's 5 - he came out on his 1st day and said he'd made a new friend and his name was 'Bean' [which of course was 'Ben' ]this went right over my head even though I'd kept telling the kids that things were pronounuced differently!! Doesn't take kids long to pick up the lingo!
At the moment we are in a holiday rental 2 minutes from the beach so today the kids have been body boarding and it's pretty hot today!
Be careful with the sun though , we were only out a couple of hours and they are looking a bit red, which I hate to happen as we are usually always really careful. They could be in & out of the pool all day in Cyprus in August and not be red.I will be more careful in future.
I've been pleasantly surprised so far with stuff in the shops, not so much of a 'desert' as I was expecting. Probably just need to pick and choose a little more and take advantage of any offers, which I always liked to do anyway.
Managed to get a new phone number & broadband sorted out & up and running in 3 days - which seems pretty good.
Had a couple of 'nice' experiences too, we were going a little too fast on our journey from the airport and got flagged down by the police , he kindly told us the rules and let us on our way. We are now being very careful , which is good. Also we were late another day on our parking and a lovely lady was just writing out our ticket but also kindly let us off after we apologised and then wished us a nice day!
Early days but so far it's all good!!

Hi,

That's lovely, you looks really motivated and your writing inspired us to leave early. We book for our flight to be on the 18th of March, route would be Amman (via Royal Jordanian) - Bangkok (via Thai Airways) - Auckland. Royal Jordanians gives 30kg for their traveller's. Probably Thai airways will accept same luggage as we will not see our luggage in transit area (5hr transit) until last destianation. Correct me if I am wrong.

Where did you settle ? Is it Christchurch ?

We've been here about the same amount of time. Things are going well, although we think people drive way too fast. ;) We're waiting for the kids' NZ passports so they can go to school, so you're lucky to have gotten them in so quickly.

Welcome! It's a cool place, eh? Totally feels like a different country, but familiar enough that it's not too scary.

We're at a holiday rental in Omanu, Mt Maunganui.
The kids started at Tauriko School, so we'll be looking to live somewhere over that way. Haven't been into Bethlehem yet, but will probably have a drive over next week to check it out , need to get on with buying a car first!

Welcome to NZ :clap

Be careful of the sun - the UV here is very dangerous - Slip, Slop Slap and Wrap (http://www.sunsmart.org.nz/media/5793/sunsmart%20info%20page%20for%20websites.pdf) - especially the kids :D
