Hi

I completed the self assessment forms EVENTUALLY and sent them off a few weeks ago. What would you like to know? It took me way over a month to do, 4 rough copies and a lot of frantic hunting through boxes for study day certificates, reading logs, reflections, skills records etc etc. And a lot of waffle in between. I only qualified last year, so fortunately a lot of the stuff needed for final sign off by the Uni and registration for the UK NMC came in very handy. I had no idea how much supporting evidence was expected, and ended up with 95 pages! Probably way over the top, but I have a job offer to start in May/June and wanted to make sure that I had covered all points as much as I possibly could. Couldn't bear to get so near and then have my registration declined. Having said that, I haven't actually heard back and had my registration approved yet. Feel free to PM me with any specific queries and I'll try to help if I can. Good luck!

Hi, yes I went through the process last year. It took ages with lots of supporting evidence I agree, I used some uni stuff and I used my perceptorship and competancies as I have been qualified a couple of years. I eventually sent it all off via DHL and it cost me about £30. Once they had received the stuff they were brilliant at NZ Midwifery council, they emailed me. They emailed with some stuff that they needed and I had to chase up one of my references. The only draw back I think in applying for the registration is the cost, I mean the certified copies of my birth certificate and marriage certificate cost me £70. Then there was the payment for the police certifcate and the NMC who wanted more money, let alone the $1000 for the registration. However once they got all they needed my registration took about 10 days all in all. Plus once you when you submit your ITA, the NZ Midwifery Council have recognised your qualification you do not need to get a full NZQA assessment as long as you provide an original or certified copy of proof of your registration.

I became a Registered Midwife for NZ last year, Spring 2008. I thought the process was very, very thorough. I have filled out paperwork for two international adoptions and this was, by far more complicated. I received my RM after my application was processed without any further documentation required. I have a job offer, and I am going to post--because I have no idea if it is a good one--especially compared to US midwife salaries. But I knew it wouldn't be the same!
