Am I right in thinking that the nearest places to waikeria are cambridge and Te Awamutu? Is waikeria the ass end of nowhere?
any thoughts on this area in general?

Waikeria is out in the sticks and situated between Te Awamutu and Otorohanga. It is only a suburb of Te Awamutu, and remember when i say suburb i mean a area with farms and houses dotted through that area. Waikeria does have a big employer though and its called the prison service as Waikeria prison is situated within the rolling hills.

I grew up in Waikeria, my father was a prison officer there. Although the "Village" where all the prison staff and familys lived is now gone. It was a great place to live we had our own little community, school, shop, pub, church, library etc and its all now gone thanks to the government getting rid of it, was very sad to see it happen. But the prison which is even bigger is still there. Other then that theres not alot out there just farmland and houses scattered around. Te Awamutu is a 15 minute drive.
