Forwarding mail via the USPS - impossible?

We moved from Austin, Texas to Wellington in late October. We have yet to have any mail forwarded by the US Postal Service. This despite five distinct attempts - one hand-delivered change of address (COA) form to the post office, one mailed COA form to the post office, three online contacts to the USPS (and several follow-ups). I can now recognize some of their well-written form letters. :wah My most recent attempt was an email to the Postmaster General. We'll see how that goes.

This has been a big surprise to me, because whenever I've moved within the US, I never had any problem.

I guess the moral of this story is to try to notify as many people as you can of your new address. If I only knew beforehand of every person or business that might want to send me a letter...

The good news is that my email works great!

I would be really surprised if the USPS would absorb the international postage rates to forward your mail to you in NZ. I just assumed it wasn't possible, and so we were planning to have mail forwarded to a friend or family here in the U.S., leaving it in their discretion as to what to throw away and what to forward to us. Let us know if the USPS will absorb those costs though - that would certainly be a lot easier.

Our mail was forwarded by USPS. I still get an occasional piece of forwarded mail well over a year after we moved.

In theory, they will forward certain classifications of mail, e.g. first-class. They won't forward other things, e.g. bulk rate mail.

Glad tidings! It is not impossible! I just got my first forwarded mail today, 4 1/2 months after leaving Austin. And I didn't even need to contact the president. :clap

Canada Post offers this service, but it cost so much it wasn't worth it. I paid to have it all sent to my parents' house (lower fee inside Canada) and have my Mum email me with anything important.

I'm really glad something finally happened, though. Were they holding it all and sent it all at once?

So far, we've just received the one forwarded letter. I'll wait for a little while and see if we get a bunch. I sure hope so. I'm worried that we won't get all the documents we need for our income taxes.
