Greetings all,

It was a godsend having arrived at these forums almost 3 years after I had given up hopes of ever migrating to NZ. :nice1 I think this is a great support and knowledge community and it instilled a LOT of confidence and hopes for my chances to move to NZ. My primary goal has been to get a job offer (or even an interview) and plan for a subsequent recce trip :exit (which wouldn’t be cheap and the visa might be a tad difficult coming from where I am).

Sadly though - even with all the great advise and links - I haven’t had one positive response. :uhoh Given my 10 years experience in IT and Telecoms and being at the cutting edge of ICT design consulting (with a respected international engineering & design firm) and experience in NGN (Next Generation Networks) - I would have thought my skills would warrant a (mildly) more positive response. I even applied for roles which were below my skill sets (set me back about 5 years) and yet no tamale

However - keeping a happy face on :) (knowing there are many worse off than I and that the economic crisis has a lot to do with the current situation) - I'd like to ask you great guys and gals for a little nudge in the form of advise and encouragement and specially (if its possible) introductions. My professional profile is on linkedin: www.linkedin.com/in/farhanahmed.

I am actually considering going back to college - applying for courses in NZ as an international student - though I am not sure if anyone on these forums has ever used this route before (let alone the expenses would be a bit difficult to manage).

Heres to keeping those NZ dreams alive

Thank you all again,

Farhan

I don't know anything to help you, but good luck. Here's hoping someone with the right information will be along soon.

It has been written here many times before: it would help if you are actually in NZ when you apply... I gather that is not an option for you?

I'm working on it. But I cant come over without maybe a few (at least 2) interviews lined up. A 3 week trip (at least) and the return trip would cost about US $ 3000. I know I can hold my own once I'm actually through to the interview stage. I agree-most people wont give much weight to someone who 'promises' to come over, but surely - there must be a way to instill some more confidence in recruiters and HR personnel.... any suggestions?

Once you have dates set for when you are coming over, you should be more likely to get interviews. However, as has already been said, many companies only seem to be interested once you are on the ground, and often only if you have a visa in hand. Its the chicken and egg thing I'm afraid, most of the people I have seen here that have picked up a job without having a visa are either specialists or the public sector (ie nursing, teaching).

Heres a good link showing someone else in a similar situation:

Edit: Theres another post about with a member whos applied for 100 odd jobs and has had no luck, trying to find it!

Someone did a clever thing and set up a NZ skype number that would directly call their phone in the US. It gave them a NZ local number at least.
It costs a little but may be an option for you.

Good luck on your search. There are a couple of us battling here at the moment. My advice would be to also try and contact companies directly. I have found quite a few of the agents seem to be advertising jobs that either don't exist or that they have no hope in ever finding the exact match that they are looking for.

The "clever thing" that BkyMonster is referring to was a call-divert setup by Dan Stutzman ('TheBigSaxon') in this thread: http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21529&page=2

Just scroll down to post number 15 and see what he did. It was *very* clever! :)

Cheers!
Pete.

I checked your profile, I think your experience and your professional degree does not match.
Professional Degree in ICT sector or Experience in true multinational organizations will help you immigrate to NZ.
Unfortunately, immigration New Zealand, require experience in specific companies and countries.

Please do extensive research, your trip to NZ may help you find relevant job.

Good Luck
