It's time for me to start getting nervous as the kind people in the Intensive Care/Coronary Care unit in Tauranga hospital have offered me an interview :D. Does anyone out there know what questions they ask at Tauranga?
Now what to wear for a telephone interview......

Hmmm, how 'bout a tie-dye Tshirt, fuzzy bear-paw slippers, and the OH's robe?
Seriously, congrats on the interview!

One thing that they are almost certainly going to ask about will be the Waitangi treaty.
If you know about this (even a little) it will be a good sign, if not then what they are looking for is how you handle cultural differences, so having a suitable answer to this question would be good.

Yes, good luck!
Not too sure what questions they would ask, as i am just a Booking Co Ordinator for Respiratory, but know they do always ask about cultural awareness, very big on the Treaty of Waitangi especially at our Hospital in Hawkes Bay but guess they wouldnt ask you too much on that or it wouldnt be fair!
They will probably ask you to relate to certain situations, etc too
keep us posted how it went!

Cheers for all the replies.
Cultural awareness/waitangi was one of the things i was reading up on. As a nurse in deepest Norfolk there is little in the way of cultural diversity. The good thing about a telephone interview is that i can have lots of information in front of me to jog my memory.
As for wearing my other half's clothing.........

I now have an interesting picture of you in my head :D
Wishing you all the best with the interview.
Other people have suggested many tips like:
talking with a smile on your face
speaking a lot slower than you would normally
having a drink (think water was suggested) on hand
notes to prompt memory
Remember someone in the medical profession saying that with the Treaty of Waitangi understanding, it is the equality of access to services that is important. Including access to transport to get to Drs. hosp, etc

Well i got all wound up ready for the interview and then when the call came there one of the interviewers wasn't able to be there and so the interview has had to be rescheduled.
Guess it just gives me a little extra time to read up on the Treaty of Waitangi.

Good Luck with the interview, sorry to hear its been delayed.
I found this document yesterday from Waikato DHB about putting the treaty of waitangi into practice in healthcare, might be useful perhaps

Since finding this week that christchurch hospital ICU has no vacancies, we are now looking at Tauranga ICU, the CVICU in Auckland and Hamiltons ICU for ourselves.
hope you have a good memory so that i can quiz you on the questions afterwards.
Cheers

Brumnurse,
Thanks for the link, it adds to the info i've got. One thing that i found that was specifically about ITU nurses was http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=uc0iTWuMnYgC&pg=PA169&lpg=PA169&dq=waitangi+treaty+nurse&source=web&ots=t_XJah9M4x&sig=F5zTEOtSmEA_A-uWZl9CF7VG7oc&hl=en&ei=WSKbSYfiMNWa_ga81rWNCg&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result#PPA169,M1.
This gives a bit more info about how it affects individuals rather than organisations.

well the interview went well and they seemed to like what i said. They're going to contact my references and subject to these being OK they'll send me a health questionnaire and contract details and I'll be a preferred applicant. I guess that means that in a roundabout way they are offering me a job :raebanana.
Questions were fairly standard ones and included dealing with different cultures, responsibilities of my role, dealing with change, what i feel constitutes a team and dealing with situations around difficulties with other team members.
Was on the phone for just under an hour which was a problem as the batteries on the handset lasted for 45 minutes. Fortunately the spare handset enabled me to continue the conversation without cutting them off.
Certainly helped being prepared for a question about dealing with cultural differences. So thanks for the advice guys.
Just to add to the literature on dealing with Maori patients, here is another link - http://www.mcnz.org.nz/portals/0/publications/Chapter%2008%20Cole%202008%205Sep07-6.pdf
Now just hoping that good things come in threes. I get a job offer, OH got a promotion at work, now just waiting for an acceptable offer on the house.
